Woman sexually assaulted in underpass
10:20am Tuesday 5th March 2013 in News
A WOMAN in her 20s has been sexually assaulted in Redditch.
It happened at about midnight on Saturday, March 2 in an underpass which leads from near the recycling bins on the Tesco car park at Oakenshaw through to Mickleton Close.
The woman, walking on her own, was confronted by a male who sexually assaulted her before she ran from the scene.
She was found in a distressed state not long after by a passing motorist on Evesham Road, half a mile away.
Detective Sergeant Justin Taylor of Redditch CID said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation and want to speak to anyone who saw any activity or heard anything unusual near the underpass at around midnight on Saturday, or if they saw a woman who appeared to be in difficulty near or at the Evesham Road at about 12.45am Sunday morning.
“One person we would like to trace as a possible witness is a man seen near the Evesham Road at the time the woman was found.
“He was wearing a cap and a dark coloured body warmer over a red and black striped jumper.
“We would urge him or anyone who thinks they know who he is to contact us as he may have information that could help our investigation.”
Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident reference 9-N-030313, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
