Deadline for festive fun

GENEROUS Redditch residents have just a matter of weeks to help make the festive dreams of several life-limited children come true.

The Craig Evans Appeal is trying to raise enough cash to send some youngsters from Acorn Children's Hospice to Alton Towers for a Santa Sleepover on December 17-18.

Appeal committee members have already raised £1,000 but desperately need another £2,000 to allow them to bring as many of the ill children as they would like to.

Members of the appeal visited Morrisons on November 4 to give out heated cushions to senior citizens and their generosity rewarded when kind-hearted shoppers donated £340 in a matter of hours.

Hoping to repeat this success, fundraisers will be at Tesco in Oakenshaw on Friday, November 24, again giving out the cushions to the elderly to help them through the winter and appealing for donations from shoppers.

Appeal co-ordinator Jean Leathwaite said: "The people of Redditch have already proved to be so generous but we still need a great deal of help.

"We want these children to have the treat of a lifetime this Christmas but the only way we can do that is by raising another £2,000."

The appeal was originally launched to raise £10,000 to buy severely disabled Craig a powered wheelchair. He died before he could enjoy the chair but organisers decided it would be a fitting tribute to Craig's bravery and resilience to continue the fund in his memory to help others.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can call Mrs Leathwaite on 401782 or write to her at 17 Corner Lane, Webheath, Redditch B97 5WP.
