No reports of child abductions in Lakeside, despite Facebook rumours, say police

POLICE reassure people after rumours circulate on Facebook about possible child abductions in the Lakeside area of Redditch.
Detective Inspector Rebecca Love, of West Mercia Police, said: “We are aware of the rumours circulating on Facebook that attempts have been made to abduct children in the Lakeside area of Redditch.
“Although calls about these rumours have been made to us, we have not received any direct or confirmed reports of any such incidents in that area.
“However we are aware Essex Police are investigating an incident at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock on Saturday, February 23, in which a woman approached a girl who was with her family.
“We believe this is the source of the rumours circulating in Redditch. We would like to reassure people that there is no connection between the Essex incident and the Redditch area.”
