Mappeborough Green headteacher chosen as speaker for Education Show 2013
10:20am Thursday 28th February 2013 in News
MAPPLEBOROUGH Green Primary School’s headteacher is to join a panel of inspirational school leaders and education experts to debate, discuss and share ideas on the future of UK education at the Education Show 2013.
The Education Show, organised by i2i Events Group, takes place at the NEC Birmingham from March 14-16.
Erica Hayton has been in primary teaching for more than 30 years; as a class teacher until 2000, then a numeracy consultant in Kirklees, and for the past nine years as a headteacher.
In this time she has witnessed a lot of change, the most significant of which she believes lies within inspection, the national curriculum and local financial management.
At the Education Show, Mrs Hayton will speak about her experience of the current Ofsted regime, her school having undergone an inspection in October 2012.
Mappleborough Green has a village-school feel, and is somewhere children’s safety and wellbeing are of paramount importance.
Mrs Hayton said: “My philosophy of education is largely made up of the child-centred primary ethos of old, although I do recognise that standards and progress have improved classroom practice to a great extent. I do however regret the politicising of education and wish teachers were trusted more. I look forward to speaking at the Education Show to share my experiences with others.”
Anita Pal, event director, added: “At the Education Show, we recognise that often the best lessons can be learnt from those that have been there and done that.
“We are excited therefore to welcome speakers such as Erica to the Education Show 2013 who can offer insightful and valuable comment, experience and feedback on the issues affecting those throughout the education sector today.”
