Holy Ascension Church
HOLY Ascension Church in Mappleborough Green, which is in its 125th anniversary year, will once again be welcoming Christians to Lent services leading up to Easter Day at the end of March.
Easter services will follow the church’s traditional format0. The morning service held every Sunday at 9.30am will be adding a second children’s Sunday group, Sunny Church, from Mothering Sunday.
The family services will now have junior church services on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from March 10.
Newly recruited Sunny Church’s Sunday school helper, Sarah Wedgbury, said: “I am looking forward to being involved and delighted to have been asked”.
Miss Wedgbury has been attending Holy Ascenstion church for 18 months with her fiancé Alan and is looking forward to their wedding day at the church on Valentine’s Day 2014.
Fundraising events have been arranged throughout the church’s anniversary year, including a Victorian banquet inside the historic building on Saturday, April 20.
Details of all forthcoming fundraising events can be obtained from committee member Linda Salsbury on 01527 450813.
She said: “Local families are warmly welcomed to join in with the exciting activities planned throughout this special year, and share the community spirit within this beautiful church and its grounds.”
In addition to the church Easter services, another special chance will be possible to join Muriel and John Richards’ Easter worship at their private chapel on Good Friday, March 29, at noon, by the crosses on the hill near their home in Haye Lane, Mappleborough Green.
The simple act of placing crosses on Mr Richard’s hill has developed into a large event for Mappleborough Green community.
