Chance for Redditch groups to apply for grants up to £500
4:50pm Thursday 21st February 2013 in News
Redditch Council
LOCAL voluntary and community groups can once again bid for up to £500 as Redditch Council launches the first round of this year’s Stronger Community Grants.
The grants are designed to support the work of local community and voluntary groups.
Groups wishing to apply for the grants do not need to be formally constituted in order to apply but they do need to provide evidence that they are working together with the local community to deliver the project or event that the funding will support.
The council regularly provides grants of up to £500 to help projects shown to be of potential benefit to the local community. Just a few of the success stories of last year’s grants include helping local scout groups buy equipment, helping with transport costs so a group of elderly residents could make use of outdoor gym equipment and improve their fitness, and supporting a group of young mothers to build confidence and increase future job potential via innovative specialist sewing workshops.
Council leader Bill Hartnett said: “The Stronger Communities Grants are a great way to bring communities together. Many groups are unable to provide these opportunities for residents without the grants, so it is important that we as a council help by continuing to provide this funding.
“It is a great opportunity and I urge local groups to get creative, place a bid and help us build a stronger community in Redditch.”
The deadline for submissions for the first round of bids is 4pm on Friday, March 22.
More information can be found on the council website as well as a downloadable version of the grant application forms. For further information about applying call Donna Hancox, voluntary sector grants co-ordinator, on 01527 64252 ext 3015.
