Studley teacher running marathon in memory of 'amazing' granddad

A TEACHER from Studley is running the London Marathon this April in memory of her granddad, and to raise money for the hospice that helped him.

This is Louise MacInnes’ first marathon and her training is already in full swing.

She said: “My granddad passed away last year and his hospice have offered me a place in their golden bond so I’m running for him. I’ve always wanted to run, I’ve applied in the ballots for years, and they were just so good to him, and good to us and my family, they looked after my nan. They were just understanding.”

Ms McInnes who teaches in Stratford, worked as one of the volunteer Gamesmakers at the London Olympics last summer. She’s raising money for St Helena`s Hospice in Colchester, where her Granddad spent time at the end of his illness.

She added: “He was an amazing man, very special, he was given three months to live and lived another three years. We were very close.

“He was never a runner, but he did teach me to go for what I believe in and never give up. I’ve done a few 10Ks in the past, but this is a challenge.

I’ve set myself a fundraising target of £1,500, but I hope to smash that.”
