A SUPPORT group for people with lung conditions, including family and carers, has donated vital equipment to the lung specialist nursing team at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.

Breathe Easy, which meets regularly in Redditch, has donated three Masimo Rad-5 pulse oximeters worth £1,200. They were donated in memory of respiratory patient Terry Osborne, who died last March.

Pulse oximeters allow nurses to monitor levels of oxygen in a patient’s blood even if they have poor circulation or while they are moving. The hand-held devices will allow nurses to perform accurate assessments during oxygen walk tests and can also ve used on wards.

Lynn Dale, advanced respiratory nurse practitioner, said: “Terry was an active supporter and chairman of the local Breathe Easy group for four years, providing support for members and the respiratory nurse team. He took part in many local charitable events and will be greatly missed.

“We’re very grateful for this donation which will make a huge difference to the care we provide for our patients.”

Val Osborne, Terry’s wife, said: “Terry had such a passion for Breathe Easy and the Alexandra Hospital’s respiratory nursing team, he called them ‘his nurses’ as they were always at the end of the phone when he needed them.

“I’m so grateful to all the nurses and the Breathe Easy group for all their help and support over the years. I’m glad we were able to use the money from Terry’s funeral to benefit local respiratory patients, I know it’s what he would have wanted too.”

Dave Dyer, Breathe Easy chairman, said they were very thankful for the generous donation.
