A GYMNASTICS club in Stock Wood, near Redditch, has secured £50,000 of Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
Worcester Gymnastics Club will receive the funding to upgrade facilities at the gym, which has helped more than 1,000 local young people get into sport since it opened in 1998.
It started as a small club for boys and expanded over the years to take males and females of all ages.
The improvements include roof repairs, a foam pit to allow safe practice of difficult manoeuvres, a storage area and a viewing area.
More than 1,000 sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities Fund. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.
Worcester Gymnastics Club chairman Sally Everest said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises to match the quality of coaches. It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics legacy.”
Redditch MP Karen Lumley added: “This investment by Sport England is fantastic news. This money is an investment that will enable everyone in the community to become involved in gymnastics if they wish. In particular, it offers the young people of today and in the future, access to top class training in top class facilities.”
Many more communities can still benefit from the fund, with a further two rounds remaining. Bids will be accepted for the fourth round of Inspired Facilities funding from March 4. For more deatils, see www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.
