A FOOD store in Redditch was robbed by a man wielding a knife.

It happened at the Co-Op on Evesham Road, Crabbs Cross, at about 8.30pm on Thursday, January 31.

A man armed with a knife went into the store and approached two members of staff who were tidying the store, and demanded money.

He made them go over to the till and open it, grabbing a quantity of notes and a tray of coins from the drawer, and then making them place further coins on top.

The man is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build, and wearing a black balaclava, a black top, jeans and ski gloves.

Detective Constable Dave Jennings of West Mercia Police said: "Luckily no-one was hurt but this was a very frightening experience for the two shop assistants, and we would like to speak to anyone with information.

"We believe the offender headed in the direction of Astwood Bank, and would appeal for anyone who saw him to contact us."

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact DC Jennings on the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident 665-s-310113 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
