Two jailed for vicious attack on teenager at Redditch fair

TWO Redditch men have been locked up for a vicious attack upon a 16-year-old youth during a fair at Arrow Valley Park in Redditch.

Benjamin Mumford and Sam Elesmore pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Prosecutor Paul Whitfield said they punched their victim in the face and then stamped on his head after he fell to the floor.

Elesmore, aged 22, of Willow Way, was jailed for 14 months. Mumford, 20, of Neville Close, was sentenced to 19 months in a young offenders institution.

Julia Powell, for Mumford, said he now accepted it had been "horrid behaviour" and was extremely sorry. He was only 19 at the time and had been drinking.

Benjamin Close, for Elesmore, said it was an isolated incident and he was not aware of the victim's age at the time. He had been waiting many months for the case to come to court and had changed his drinking habits.

Judge Richard Rundell said a sustained attack had been made on a young victim and it was fortunate he had not been more seriously injured. Matters were made worse because the attack was fuelled by drink.
