Kingsley pupils waxing lyrical about Poetry Live event

KINGSLEY College students from years 10 and 11 had the fantastic opportunity of attending this year’s ‘Poetry Live’ event at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham on January 29.

The day gave the students the chance to hear from six famous poets, including Simon Armitage and John Agard, who are studied as part of the GCSE English literature syllabus.

The poets read a selection of their poetry and gave some interesting insights into the deeper meanings of their poems.

A school spokesman said: “This personal insight will be invaluable for the students when it comes to revising for their poetry exam and highlights the school’s commitment to bringing learning to life.

“The event was attended by schools from all over the country, and was a huge success. All students and staff in attendance thoroughly enjoyed their day and feel they have gained a new perspective on some rather challenging poems.”
