TOWN bus operator First has sold off its depot near the Kingfisher Centre and handed over its operations in Worcestershire.

The company was bought out by Rotola, which also operates the Diamond service in Redditch, for £1.5m it was announced today.

For the sum, the bus company gets the Plymouth Road depot, built about 35 years ago and which can hold 50 buses, a Kidderminster depot, 36 vehicles, and various items of plant and equipment.

In a statement released from Rotola, it said it will continue to run the services that First currently operated from these depots.

The statement added: “By integrating these acquired depots into its current depot network, the company will be able to take advantage of operating efficiencies generated by the acquisition.

“Once the integration of operations and overheads has been fully implemented, the acquisition is expected to have a beneficial effect on earnings in the following years.”

About 120 members of staff are employed across both Redditch and Kidderminster.
