THE Blockbuster store in Redditch will close, administrators have announced.

Deloitte, the administrators to Blockbuster, have confirmed 129 stores will close over the coming weeks as part of a phased closure, adding to 31 already named.

Staff members of Blockbuster, in Trafford Park, will now be facing redundancy and a dedicated helpline for employees across the stores is running to help them find other jobs.

The closures will not take effect immediately and during the period before the shops shut there will be promotions in the store.

Lee Manning, joint administrator, said: “Having reviewed the portfolio with management, the store closure plan is an inevitable consequence of having to restructure the company to a profitable core which is capable of being sold.

"We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time. We are also grateful to the customers for their continued support.”
