Redditch Council marks LGBT history month with anti-hate crime video

LGBT History Month which runs throughout February, is being marked in Redditch with the launch of a community safety film designed to combat hate crime.

Redditch mayor Councillor Alan Mason, will be screening the film at a event at Redditch Town Hall on Friday, February 1.

Councillor Rebecca Blake, who is responsible for community safety, said: “As a council we are determined to recognise all sections of the community and the contributions they make. We are fully committed to challenge all forms of hate crime to ensure that everyone is able to play their full part in making our community, here in Redditch, a respectful and safe place to live. This locally produced DVD is a great way to launch LGBT History Month.”

As well as the screening, which is open to members of the public and will include light refreshments, information packs about a range of LGBT issues will be available at all council public contact points throughout the month of February.

LGBT History Month is held every February throughout the UK and was established to celebrate and recognise the contribution made to society by lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans-gender members of the community.
