Worcestershire communities urged to apply for MOD funding
2:40pm Thursday 17th January 2013 in News
WORCESTERSHIRE County Council is encouraging members of the community to apply for Ministry of Defence (MOD) funding. £30 million has been allocated nationally to be spent before the end of the 2014/15 financial year on supporting local projects.
This funding is available to support local projects which strengthen ties and mutual understanding between members of the Armed Forces Community and the wider communities in which they live.
Individual applications for funding between £100 and £250,000 will be considered by The Ministry of Defence.
One success story is Hereford and Worcester Army Cadets, who were successful in their recent application for MOD funding of £3,000 to purchase safety equipment and tools to complete ongoing volunteering work with the Canal & River Trust.
The group recently started volunteering with the trust to keep the towpath of their local stretch of canal at Stourport free of litter and vegetation. This enables their local community to appreciate the canal and use it more for a way of getting around.
The cadets intend to roll out this activity to more detachments within the county, both to cover more areas and to carry out more volunteering which will benefit both their cadets and the local communities.
Applications for funding of between £100 and £250,000 can be submitted by any part of the community such as volunteer groups, charities, and public bodies such as schools.
The MOD Grant Panel meets quarterly so to be considered for the next round of funding applications need to be submitted to the Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Working Group by no later than 5pm on Friday, February 1, 2013.
