Become a Macmillan volunteer at the Alex Hospital
6:20pm Monday 14th January 2013 in News
THE Macmillan Cancer Information and Support service at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is appealing for volunteers who can spare a few hours a week to help visitors affected by cancer.
Volunteers at the trust’s Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centres, at the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal hospitals, help Macmillan reach more people affected by cancer, and ensure they get the support and information they need.
No two days are the same for Macmillan volunteers as they deal with individuals or families seeking emotional support at any point in their cancer journey, members of the public asking how they can become a fundraiser or what to do about a mole that is worrying them, to name but a few.
Pauline Price, who has been volunteering with Macmillan in Worcestershire for two years, said: “I find it very rewarding and satisfying to help someone who may be at a difficult time in their lives.”
Kay Tandy, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Lead said: “The role of the volunteer is absolutely crucial to the success of the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support service in Worcestershire. They enable the centre to open regularly and provide a warm welcome to all those who use the service.
“We are looking for friendly, positive people who are good communicators and listeners, able to relate to people from all walks of life.
“Volunteers come from a range of different backgrounds and experience but all are motivated by the desire to make a difference to those affected by cancer.”
