REDDITCH residents are being asked to do something amazing and register to give blood.

Sainsburys pharmacy is working with NHS Blood and Transplant to encourage local residents to give blood and help save lives.

The store, on the Abbey Trading Centre, will be holding a number of special events over the next month where people can register.

There will also the chance to have free health tests, carried out by the pharmacy, and receive advice and support on healthy living.

A spokesman from Sainsburys said: “Everyone knows blood is literally a lifesaver for those who’ve been in an accident or need it to help survive treatments and operations.

“But for some, whose illness has no cure and that last battle they face just can’t be won, a blood transfusion can help to improve their quality of life during their final months, weeks or even days.”

Shailesh Mistry, from NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "New Year’s resolutions have become a bit cliché over the past few years as people always set themselves up for big challenges they are unable to complete.

“Our challenge is a simple one, plus we can guarantee donors a warm welcome, a hot cup of tea and a biscuit to help boost their sense of achievement not to mention the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping sick and injured people in local hospitals with each and every donation they make.

"We are grateful to Sainsburys Pharmacy for supporting our appeal for new blood donors.”

There will be free cholesterol testing on January 23 as well as advice on living a healthier lifestyle.

The register and information sessions start on January 25, and last until February 24.
