The NHS in Worcestershire is gearing up to cope with extra demand as the New Year festivities approach.

People across Worcestershire are being encouraged to use the most appropriate NHS services if they require health treatment and advice by making use of local GP, pharmacy and minor injuries services to avoid putting extra pressure on the Emergency Department at this busy time of year.

Dr Jonathan Leach, Local GP and Medical Director for NHS Worcestershire, said: “I would like to remind people there is a range of NHS support and advice available. Don’t wait at A&E unless you really need to. GP surgeries across the county will be open as normal (8am until 6.30pm) except on New Year’s Day.

“If you have an urgent medical or dental problem while your GP surgery is closed, contact the Out of Hours Service in Worcestershire on 0300 123 3211 or you can visit Worcester Walk-in Centre, Farrier Street, Worcester, WR1 3BH. Don’t forget that your local pharmacist can also offer advice and support.”

He added: “People who suffer cuts, grazes, wounds, sprains and minor burns can also visit one of the Minor Injury Units in Evesham, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Malvern or Tenbury. For opening times visit www.worcestershire.nhs.uk/choose-well

“A&E and the Ambulance Service should only be used for life threatening or serious conditions. Help us to treat those who most need our help, by only using A&E or dialling 999 if you really need it.”
