NEW College staff and students are aiming to give this year’s Christmas number 1 contenders a run for their money, after releasing their own charity single.

The single, All The Broken Toys at Christmas, is a Punk Christmas song, performed by Batteries Not Included.

The catchy song sees the singer complaining to his parents about the toys that broke on Christmas Day, and the ones they never bought him.

College students from Bromsgrove and Redditch have been heavily involved in the project and have produced an animated video featuring dozens of toys, old and new.

The project is the brainchild of NEW College’s media tutor, Sean Macreavy, who wanted to raise money for his wife, Sally’s 2013 London Marathon run for Sense - a charity supporting and campaigning for deafblind people.

Sally, who is a former Midlands Today weathergirl, will be running will Alcester neighbour Gary Field, and the pair are hoping to raise as much money as possible.

Sean Macreavy said: “It’s been a real joy working on this.

“Sense is such a great cause, and the college students have really got behind the charity fund-raising and the crazy idea of animating all those toys.

“We are just about to gain national BBC airplay and many people think it should be Christmas number one.”

Virginia Von Malachowski, from Sense, said: “We are delighted to be associated with this amazing project.

“The efforts and enthusiasm of Sean, the band, NEW College students and the two marathon runners is just fantastic.”
