CARERS across Worcestershire are invited to an event to find out what support, help and advice is available to them.

Hosted by Worcestershire Association of Carers, Redditch Carers Careline and Redditch Council, the event is themed  ‘Money Matters’.

There will be numerous stands from a wide range of organisations that provide support to carers, along with one-to-one benefits advice sessions, group talks and information sessions.

There are an estimated 60,000 informal Worcestershire carers with many caring for more than 50 hours a week for friends or relatives with a serious illness or disability. The Carers Rights Event aims to provide support, help and advice to carers, particularly financial and legal support.

Redditch mayor Alan Mason, who will be opening the event, said: “As a carer myself I feel this event will provide a great service to many people who may not know who or where they can go for help.

“When looking after someone else your own problems tend to get set aside to focus on those of the person you’re caring for and often this can lead to more difficulties, whether financial or otherwise.

“This event will provide carers with the help and guidance they need so they can continue to provide help, guidance and care for others.”
In anticipation of the Welfare Reform Act 2012, carers are invited to attend the event which will be held in the Civic Suite at Redditch Town Hall on Friday, December 7, from 10am until 4pm.

The event, including refreshments and speakers, is completely free.

To attend a talk for one-to-one advice at the event, call James Harris on 01905 751348 to book a place.
