ON Thursday, November 15, a group of year 10 students from Kingsley visited the Leicester Space Centre for a combined maths and science visit.

Their mission was to explore how these two subjects are involved in the ongoing discovery of space.

The day began with an insight into the emergency work carried out by response teams involved in following natural disasters.  Students had to calculate and make predictions for emergency evacuation procedures.

During the afternoon, students watched a short video on the dangers and challenges which face astronauts. This film was made even more effective by the way in which it was shown on the ceiling dome of the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium.

Students were fascinated by the work carried out by the astronauts and the perils which stand in the way of the completion of their ground-breaking scientific experiments.

They also had the opportunity to explore the museum itself and enrich their knowledge on space and all its wonders.
