VOLUNTARY and community groups in Redditch are set to receive a £246,000 boost.

The cash comes from Redditch Council grant funding, with groups able to apply for a slice of the money.

The aim is to help support projects and initiatives that help deliver services to the local community as well as meet the council’s strategic purposes such as stronger communities and community welfare.

Bill Hartnett, leader of the council, said: “The grants scheme has thrived over the last three years but we intend to make sure the purpose of the scheme remains the same, ensuring community groups have a source of local funding which is accessible and easy to apply for.”

Councillor David Bush, chairman of the grants panel, added: “I am extremely pleased that we can provide this grants scheme to our residents in the knowledge that the money will be used to improve people’s lives. I think it is fantastic.”
