THE fight to save Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital has officially reached Whitehall.

Members of the Save The Alex campaign, along with MPs and council leaders, will be meeting MP Dan Poulter, the Minister in charge of the health review, to discuss the recent shake-up to services.

The aim of the meeting, taking place this afternoon, is to highlight the level of opposition to the Joint Services Review (JSR) which could see the Alex loose vital services.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley said: "We will argue the case that keeping services at the Alex is vital.

"The people of Redditch need services to remain at the Alex so they can access the clinical care they need locally.

"We will be discussing how the proposed changes will impact the local community and how we believe that there are alternative options for the Minister to consider."

The JSR is part of a shake-up of how and at which of the county’s three hospital sites - Redditch, Worcester and Kidderminster - services are provided in the future.

This is because Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospitals, has to save £50 million over the next three years.
