Event in Redditch to mark World Diabetes Day
6:00pm Monday 12th November 2012 in News
TO mark World Diabetes Day, the Worcestershire diabetes specialist community team will be holding a self care open event at Redditch Library, from 10am-2pm on Wednesday, November 14.
The event coincides with National Self Care Week, and the team will be taking the opportunity to emphasise the importance of self care when it comes to managing diabetes.
In Worcestershire, 100 people are diagnosed with diabetes every month and by 2020 there will be around 40,000 people diagnosed and living with diabetes in the county. If you or someone you know has been affected by diabetes, why not drop into the event to find out more?
There will be information on health checks and health trainers – helping you to know if you are at risk and how you could change your lifestyle to stay healthy.
The team will also be advising on the early symptoms for children and you will be able to find out about nationally accredited courses run by the Acute Hospitals Trust, including the Diabetes XPERT, XPERT Insulin and DAFNE courses.
The event is supported by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, NHS Worcestershire, Worcestershire County Council and Diabetes UK.
Self Care programmes manager Sian Finn said “We are all growing older, but are we growing older healthily?
"That’s the theme for this year’s National Self Care Week, and there are some simple steps we can all follow to take more control over our own health – at any age.
“Staying healthy starts with knowledge about the daily choices we’re making, and this event is a great opportunity to get specialist advice about health in an informal way.
" Please do drop in, we look forward to seeing you.”
