A TEAM of 20 employees from a Redditch company recently completed the Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

Cruise.co.uk, a specialist cruise travel agency based on Prospect Hill, took part in the challenge in memory of a colleague.

The team had originally vowed to get involved after learning that Drew Wheddon had been diagnosed with Sarcoma, a rare bone and soft tissue cancer.

However a week before the run Mr Wheddon, 30, sadly passed away.

Rachel Jenkins said: “We’ve raised over £12,000 for Sarcoma UK in memory of Drew. We hope that our achievements so far would have made Drew proud.

“The whole experience was exhilarating and exhausting, and there are a few aching muscles in the office, but the feeling as the team crossed the finish line was worth it.”

Jo Cunningham, a colleague of Mr Wheddon, added: “Cancer, in some form, is sure to touch all of us at one point in our lives, but what makes this half marathon even more poignant for us is Drew.

“He has been a valued colleague for a number of years and so without doubt we all want to do all we can to raise the much-needed funds for Sarcoma UK to fund its work and research.”
