IT'S hard to know whether comedy albums should be considered alongside their comedy peers or their musical peers.

The falling between two stalls usually means they don't compare well in either crowd and Flight of the Conchords' self-titled album essentially has the same problem.

There are very few good musical comedians out there and the sight of a guitar making its way onto a comedy club stage is enough to fill an audience with dread. On that front, there are some fantastic numbers, particularly Think About It and Robots, which would crack up a live crowd.

However, musically lampooning every style from 80s electronica to R 'n' B and Bowie means that this isn't an easy album to settle into. Some of the lyrics are inspired, like the down to earth reality of The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room) or the romantic optimism of Business Time, and any group that adds a binary solo, or the line "Once again without emotion" to a song about robots deserves credit.

Really though, I suspect this is going to gather dust in your music collection once it's had a few listens.
