A REDDITCH couple proved you can be in the right "plaice" at the right time after romance blossomed when they first met in a Birmingham fish and chip shop.

Leslie and Joan Farnsworth, both lived in Kingstanding but moved to Redditch about 20 years ago and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Thursday.

After their first chance meeting in the chip shop, when Leslie was 20 and Joan was 17, the couple started dating and loved nothing more than taking part in dance competitions together, both were also keen bowlers.

He served in the Navy for several years and Joan was a cook at a local school.

The couple, now aged 81 and 78, married a year later at a Birmingham register office.

Their granddaughter, Elizabeth Griffiths, said: "My granddad is now in Stonebridge Nursing Home as he has had Alzheimers for about the last 10 years.

"It is sad because he came through after two big operations, and MRSA, but now has alzheimers.

"When he and my nan were younger they made the most out of life and they have always been very much in love with each other."
