Cheers to pub of the year!

11:09pm Tuesday 8th April 2008

REGULARS at The Weighbridge in Alvechurch have been raising a glass to success after the pub was voted CAMRA Pub of the Year 2007.

Members of the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) presented the award to delighted licensees John and Jayne Humphreys.

John Humphreys said: "When we found out we had won it was absolutely fantastic. It was quite a shock because we didn't even know we were entered.

"We have good beer and good food and it's a great small friendly pub - we're all really pleased."

Paul Richards, from CAMRA, said: "One aspect of the pub that impressed the judges was the friendly service and good value for money, particularly with home-cooked meals.

"Three real ales are on offer including Tillerman's Tipple, a light and hoppy low gravity beer which is brewed for the pub by the local Weatheroak Ales Brewery."

He added: "It's good to see small rural pubs such as The Weighbridge win these awards."
