THE Three Counties Showground is about to burst into life when it welcomes from tomorrow more than 90,000 visitors as the Royal Three Counties Show flings open its gates for the annual three day extravaganza.

This year marks 60 years of the event being held at the Malvern showground and it’s set to be the biggest celebration of the great British countryside yet.

Head of Shows for the Three Counties, Diana Walton, said: “We can’t wait to open the gates on this year’s spectacular anniversary show. We’ve got something for everyone from jaw-dropping Red Devil parachute displays and the incredible Shetland Pony Grand National, to the magnificent champion livestock in the Grand Parade and Britain’s best loved farmers in the form of Adam Henson and the cast of The Archers.

“It’s set to be a hearty feast of farming, fine food and family entertainment.”

This year Worcestershire hosts the show, sharing some of the best bits of the county with visitors.

Worcestershire music will entertain the crowds, and visitors can follow a trail of beautiful works of art from celebrated artist, David Birtwhistle.

The extremely popular, Medieval re- enactment camp returns to focus on Worcestershire’s exciting history and The Firs, birth place of Sir Edward Elgar, will be showcasing an original piano owned by the great composer.

Other highlights include - Royal Three Counties Ambassador and Britain’s favourite farmer, Adam Henson returns for all three days of the show. Visitors will be able to ask him plenty of questions and find out all about his farm animals.

The cast of the world’s longest-running radio soap opera The Archers will give talks alongside judging a range of competitions and some lucky visitors will even get the opportunity to meet some of Ambridge’s finest.

And a new Gardening Hub with BBC presenter and gardening consultant, Martin Fish, brings workshops and expert question and answer sessions. In this new area, dedicated to gardeners, there’ll also be award-winning local nurseries, the return of the stunning International Orchid Show and popular Village Show.

Also to celebrate their centenary, Worcestershire Women’s Institute will be presenting the coveted national Huxley Cup to one lucky winner. The Huxley Cup was first presented 80 years ago and is an imposed exhibit, where competitors from across the country are presented with the theme, their materials, sundries and containers and have two hours to create their final display.

Horse lovers will be able to find out all there is to know about caring for horses and admire the magnificent Hook Norton Heavy Horses in the Ask The Groom / Equine Village.

Horse lovers will also have plenty of new classes to marvel at including in hand sports horse classes, in a packed schedule of more than 290 equine classes - among which will be two horses owned by the Queen.
