THE Malvern Theatres Young Company has created quite a reputation in recent years and they will once again be aiming to enhance it with their 2018 Summer Project which will include an appearance at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They will be staging Sophocles’ Antigone, directed by Nic Lloyd, in the Festival Theatre from August 8-10, before heading north of the border on their first tour to perform at The Space on the Scottish capital’s Mile Venue 3, from August 13-18.

The Malvern Theatres Young Company allows young people the chance to be involved in a professionally staged theatre production, empowering them to take their first steps into a career in the world of theatre.

They are also about to offer a second advanced course in drama and performance for professional theatre, which is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wanting to pursue a career in theatre.

This rigorous and intensive course will offer training in acting, direction, voice, movement and musical theatre; it will also offer specialised sessions which will focus on audition technique, stage production and stage combat.

The returning course directors will be Nic Lloyd (Chief Executive Malvern Theatres), West End actress Kim Ismay and theatre director Sophie Boyce Couzens. All aspects of the course will be led by seasoned professionals, renowned industry performers and special master-class tutors yet to be announced.

“The course is aimed very much at students who have a serious desire to work within the theatre industry, and what we are aiming to do is to give them a little bit of experience of what it will be like when they go to drama school.

"So we’re giving them that opportunity to talk to people. Everybody teaching on this course earn their living working in the theatre,” says Mr Lloyd.

Actor Timothy West, who was tutor on the Advanced Course this year, also added: “There are not many courses like this, so it’s lovely to come to a very successful theatre that does a lot of straight drama during the year, so there’s a chance for the kids to come and have a look at a lot of good people doing good things.”

Auditions for both Antigone and the Advanced Course will be held in January, on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th. Applicants must be aged 16 years and over, and if auditioning for both and are successful you can only take part in one.Fees apply.
