SHAKESPEARE transposed to the Roaring Twenties will be a feature of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Courtyard in Hereford, this July.

One of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies will be performed with a twist as the story is transported to 1920s Sicily as Hermia and Lysander dream of escaping to the new world for a better life.

A spokesman said: "Featuring mafia bosses instead of fairies, this version will capture all of Shakespeare’s humour and wit but with a new and inventive take.

"The Senior Youth Theatre, who are aged between 14 and 25 will be directed Education Officer and Youth Theatre Leader Dan Pegler who himself trained in The Courtyard’s Youth Theatre."

Dan Pegler, Director, says: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the first play I performed in The Courtyard’s Main House and I thought it was fitting to come full circle and direct my own version. I am very excited to give our young people this chance to perform in a Shakespeare classic with our special twist.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is sponsored by Stirling Hereford and will be in The Courtyard’s Main House from Thursday July 27 to Saturday July 29.
