REDDITCH Operatic Society is on the lookout for a leading lady to star in its upcoming musical Sister Act.

The search has officially begun to fill the role of Deloris Van Cartier – also known as Sister Mary Clarence – a role made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1992 film by Joseph Howard.

Tony Jay, ROS Chairman, said: “Whoever gets the part of Deloris will have some pretty big boots to fill because most people will have watched Whoopi Goldberg perform the role in the film. She is a huge character which needs someone truly dedicated to playing the part.

“We are looking for an actress with a pinch of glitz, a sprinkle of glamour and a whole lot of (on stage) attitude."

A Sister Act Introduction Night at Community House, 103 Easemore Road, is being held on Tuesday, May 23.

Running from 7.30pm, the night will provide the opportunity to find out more about the plans for the show from the production team.

As well as the role of Deloris, the society is looking to cast a number of other principle nuns, backup singers, dancers and men to play gangsters.

Interested parties can get in touch via the society’s Facebook page, email tony@redditch-operatic.co.uk, or by phone on 01527 455001.

The show will be performed at the Palace Theatre from November 21 to 25.
