EVER since stepping into the public eye in 2011, Ed Sheeran has appeared unstoppable, going from strength to strength as he took the world by storm. This whirlwind continued as Ed Sheeran made a penultimate UK stop on his Division tour at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena before heading overseas, writes Liz Sharpe.

It was a night filled with emotion and acoustic as the crowds took a trip through albums plus, multiply and divide.

Love was in the air during romantic track Perfect as a proposal was made in the crowd, leading to cheers and a 'thank you' from the singer.

The song I See Fire, commissioned for the soundtrack of the 2013’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, was performed with added visual stimulus of projected trees and was seamlessly transitioned into from the song Feeling Good, written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse.

The 26-year-old had the crowd in the palm of his hand for his smash hit Galway Girl, Shape of You and attitude filled You Need Me, I Don't Need You, which provided an enthusiastic encore.

The arena went silent for Ed’s second number one single Thinking Out Loud, which spent 19 weeks within the top 40 before grabbing number-one spot in November 2014.

Before the main event, star in her own right Anne-Marie, whose album is due to be released this year, came out in support, performing a medley of her songs including Alarm and Ciao Adios.

She also sang Rockabye, which she recorded with Clean Bandit. Also impressive was first support act Ryan McMullan.

No stranger to Birmingham, Ed previously performed at Fusion Festival at Cofton Park in August 2015, before its move to Otterspool Promenade in Liverpool.

Ed has announced a collection of worldwide tour dates in Europe, Mexico and Central and South America and is due to perform at London’s O2 tonight (Wednesday, May 3) before heading to Peru.
