AN actress who shot to national prominence in the long running television series of Men Behaving Badly is the latest addition to the cast of a riotous new comedy which opens in Stratford-upon-Avon next month.

Richard Bean’s play, The Hypocrite, already has Mark Addy playing Sir John Holtham, and now Caroline Quentin joins the cast as his wife, Lady Sarah Hotham.

Directed by Phillip Breen, it initially opens at the Hull Truck Theatre with a national press night on Wednesday, March 1, before transferring to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre previewing from March 30.

Caroline’s extensive TV and stage credits include: Relative Values (Theatre Royal, Bath), the original RSC production of Les Misérables (Barbican Theatre), Men Behaving Badly (ITV/BBC), Life of Riley, Jonathan Creek and Blue Murder (BBC).  She has won two British Comedy Awards, and a Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards.

Mark Addy began his career on television, appearing in award-winning comedies such as The Thin Blue Line and he has also appeared in HBO's Game of Thrones alongside Sean Bean.

His most recent television credits include Trollied for Sky 1, BBC’s Atlantis and New Blood and ITV’s Jericho. In 1997, he starred in The Full Monty, leading to a BAFTA nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

He also starred in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Jack Frost, Down to Earth and A Knight's Tale. Mark also appeared as Friar Tuck in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood.

The Hypocrite is by award-winning playwright Richard Bean, whose other recent plays include The Nap, One Man, Two Guvnors, Great Britain and Made in Dagenham. This production is directed by Phillip Breen, whose recent RSC credits include the highly acclaimed The Merry Wives of Windsor (2012) and The Shoemaker’s Holiday (2014).

Further casting for The Hypocrite includes: Martin Barrass (Mayor Barnard), Danielle Bird (Drudge), Neil D’Souza (Peregrine Pelham), Danielle Henry (Sweet Lips/Mme Frottage/Lady Digby) and Adrian Hood (Executioner/Captain Moyer).

The Hypocrite continues at the Swan through to April 29.
