PERFORMING under the baton of renowned conductor John Wilson, The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain makes a return visit to Birmingham’s prestigious Symphony Hall this new year.

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) is an orchestra like no other.

The 164 teenage musicians, including local performers, hail from all corners of the UK and from very different backgrounds – but they are all bound together by their love of classical music.

They will certainly inspire audiences at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, not once but twice this year on Friday, January 6 and again Friday, August 4.

Aged 13 to 18, the NYO rehearse and perform at Britain’s most prestigious concert halls, in schools and to teenage audiences across the country.

For both of their performances at Symphony Hall, tickets are £5 for anyone under the age of 25.

With classical music evolving on a national scale, it is an essential part of the vision of NYO to push the boundaries of orchestral practice, developing new audiences and making a positive contribution to the future of classical music.

Renowned for their accessible and contemporary performances and programmes, the NYO’s return performances at Symphony Hall will be led by acclaimed conductor, arranger and musicologist, John Wilson.

Richard Hawley, head of artistic programming at Town Hall Symphony Hall, said: "We want to ensure the classical music ecology for Birmingham remains vibrant and relevant, sponsors opportunity and celebrates diversity. We are offering young people the opportunity to see the country’s best musicians perform at Symphony Hall for just a fiver. Tickets are likely to sell fast, so if you are 25 or under, be sure to grab one while they last.”
