NOT one but two productions will be performed this summer by the Malvern Theatres Young Company (MTYC) to celebrate their fifth anniversary.

The first production will be the American classic Our Town, by Thornton Wilder. The talented cast aged 13 years and over, will perform on the iconic Festival Theatre stage from Wednesday, August 10 to Saturday, August 13.

A story of everyday life in a small American town, this Pulitzer prize-winning play follows Emily and George as they meet, fall in love, marry and live out their lives for better for worse. Their story is a simple one which, in Wilder’s hands, becomes a poignant and captivating exploration of humanity.

The second summer production will be Seussical, the musical based on the works of Dr Seuss. The cast range from ages 8-24 years and will be performing in the Forum Theatre from Tuesday, August 23 to Saturday, August 27.

Dr Seuss’s best-loved characters collide and cavort in this unforgettable musical caper suitable for the whole family, featuring Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Amayzing Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination: Jojo

The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

After all those years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage? Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue! No, there’s no telling what! But I’ll give you a clue… So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza by TONY winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Andy Reiss of Beyond the Barricade is set to direct the company for his 5th consecutive year.

The Malvern Theatres Young Company provides young people aged 8-24 with the opportunity to perform established repertoire in a leading regional venue, working with professional directors and production teams.

Past MTYC shows include Little Shop Of Horrors, Les Misérables and Jesus Christ Superstar. Last Year’s production of Oliver! played to standing ovations at the end of every performance and this year’s double helping of youth theatre promises just as many thrills and outstanding dramatic and musical performances.

Tickets to go along and support this talented young company of local performers are now available and can be booked via the Box Office 01684 892277 or online at malvern-theatres.co.uk.
