A SIDE-splitting horror film with a comic twist - shot in the Redditch and Alcester area - has proved so popular it is coming back for another screening at Bromsgrove's Artrix.

The Snarling, written by Studley-based actor and writer Pablo Raybould, will be shown once again at the Artrix in Slideslow Drive, Bromsgrove, on July 28 at 8pm.

The action sees locals at a small pub become involved with a zombie horror movie being shot in their village.

Stars appearing in it include Joel Beckett, of EastEnders and The Office fame, Chris Simmons, from Casualty, and actress Julie Peasgood - and there is a special appearance from former Midlands Today newsreader Ashley Blake.

Its first viewing, earlier this year, was mainly for the cast and crew, with just a handful of tickets available to the public.

But, after many requests following its successful reception at other screenings and film festivals, the producers have decided to open it up to the public with a '15' certificate.

The Snarling - which has drawn comparisons with Shaun of the Dead - has become popular on social media and was recently invited to be part of the Derby Film Festival.

It has also been accepted into GenCon in the USA for its first international festival.

Horror Talk Review said it had "excellent characters and a solid plot".

After the earlier Artrix screening, Mr Raybould said: "The film received gales of laughter and huge applause and was a huge hit.

"We have received fantastic comments and it is being likened to Shaun of the Dead and films of that genre."

Tickets for the July showing are available by phoning the Artrix box office on 01527 577330.
