REDDITCH music lovers will be able to experience the unique sound of Mexican dulcimer later this month.

The event, entitled Que Viva El Salterio, will include performances, workshops and a concert.

Dulcemelos Alejandra Barrrientos and Hector Larios, who have been teaching and performing music for over 20 years, will take to the stage with their sons Martin, aged nine, and Hector, aged 12.

Organiser Sally Whytehead said: "This is a very rare chance to see and hear the Salterio and its music up close."

There will be a workshop on plucking technique with some simple Mexican music from 2.30pm. Tickets cost £10.

In the evening, a concert of 19th century to present day music, including both popular Mexican folk and classical, will take place from 7pm. Ticket also cost £10.

The event, which is hosted by the UK's national Nonsuch Dulcimer Club, is being held on Saturday, July 30 at St Andrews Church in Upperfield Close, Church Hill.
