BUDDING young actors who could possibly be the next Judy Dench or Ian McKellen are now being sought to take part in two productions at the county’s leading theatre.

The Malvern Theatres Young Company (MTYC) - which has steadily built a reputation for top class performances - will be staging two productions next year as part of their Summer Project.

The first production will be the American classic - Our Town, by Thornton Wilder, whose Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of American life at the turn of the 20th century. It follows the everyday lives of two families, the Gibbs and the Webbs, from birth, to marriage and ultimately, death.

The production will be directed by Nic Lloyd, the theatres’ chief executive.

Auditions for this will be taking place early in the new year and are open to both existing and new members, aged 13 years and over, and these will be on Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, 2016.

The second summer production will be Seussical, which is the musical based on the works of Dr Seuss.

Auditions for this are open to both existing and new members, aged from eight to 24 years.

“After all those years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage? Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue! No, there’s no telling what! But I’ll give you a clue…”

So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza by TONY winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Andy Reiss - of Beyond the Barricade - is set to direct the company for his fifth consecutive year and the Seussical auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24, 2016.

If a young would-be actor is successful in gaining a part in one or both of the plays, they will be required to pay a ‘taking part’ fee of £175. The fee covers their entire time with the project, and if they take part in both summer projects, only one fee of £175 will be payable.

Malvern Theatres Young Company is a group of talented and enthusiastic young performers aged eight to 24 years.

Now in its fifth year, its past shows include Little Shop Of Horrors, Les Misérables, and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Last year’s outstanding production of Oliver! played to full houses and standing ovations at the end of every performance and next year’s double-bill also promises to impress.
