BIRMINGHAM Repertory Theatre is looking for local volunteers to join a community acting company to appear as supernumaries in the world premiere of Meera Syal’s Anita And Me this autumn.

Directed by The REP’s artistic director, Roxana Silbert and adapted for the stage from the much-loved novel by the award-winning playwright, Tanika Gupta, Anita And Me paints a colourful portrait of village life in 1970s West Midlands during the era of flares, power cuts and glam rock.

The supernumaries, or theatrical extras, are required to appear in the larger crowd or ensemble scenes of Anita And Me alongside the company of professional actors.

The parts will be unnamed, non-speaking roles and are voluntary unpaid opportunities but with a small contribution towards travel expenses.

It will offer a great opportunity to work with a professional director and company of actors plus it gives the chance to appear on the main stage at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

To be part of the community company volunteers must be 16 plus and while The REP are interested to hear from anyone local who would enjoy this opportunity, they are also looking specifically for people who match the following descriptions: young men and women aged 16 to 30-years-old and women of 40 years and older.

The overall dates of the commitment are September 7 to October 24.

Volunteers will be required on the occasional evening or Saturday during the rehearsal period from September 7 to October 4.

The technical rehearsal week and performances will run from October 5.

During the performance period The REP will use a rota system so volunteers will not be expected to commit to the entire run of Anita And Me but as much availability that volunteers can offer will be welcomed.
