TO mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War there will be a special exhibition at St. Philip's Church in Webheath.

The exhibition marks Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day, the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces.

Running from from May 8 to 10, it includes displays and photographs showing events which took place between 1939 to 1945 on land, at sea and in the air, for example the D Day Landings, the Dambusters raid (with a Redditch connection), and the Battle of the Bulge.

The exhibition will also portray how Redditch contributed to the war effort, when the Blitz came to Redditch in 1940 and how the town celebrated the end of the war with photos of street parties and victory parades.

On VE Day Friday, May 8, there will be a film evening showing war time films of that era.

For more information on the event, which is free to enter but donations are welcome in aid of St. Philip’s, call 01527 544068.
