SPECIAL treats are in store for families at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre over the Easter holidays.

Highlights include following clues around Stratford-upon-Avon's world-famous theatre to find special Shakespeare egg heads including a free Easter treat, celebrating the RSC’s brand new exhibition - Sea-Markings, where children can get crafty and make their very own boat to take home, and also the chance to enjoy decorating Easter biscuits with a fun workshop session.

The Great Shakespeare Egg Hunt is on daily between Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, April 12 (10am-5pm) and will involve picking up a trail leaflet and following the clues to find special Shakespeare egg heads hidden around the theatre. Solve the puzzle and get an Easter treat.

This is a free drop-in activity with no need to book and booking isn’t necessary either for the Crafty Workshops which are based on the Sea-Markings exhibition by Susan Stockwell. These will be in the theatre’s Upper Circle Bar on Thursday, April 2, between 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm.

Visitors will be able to meet Susan Stockwell, the creator of Sea-Markings, and make their very own boat like the ones in the exhibition. This event is suitable for ages eight and over.

Also on offer is the Dressing-Up Box – outside the theatre’s PACCAR room on Monday and Sunday, 10am-5pm where children can dress-up with a range of special props from the RSC Costume Store. The permanent Dressing-Up Box is for all ages.

Advance booking on 0844 800 1110 is recommended for the theatre workshops which include Blood, Guts and Gore, Voice Skills and Easter Biscuit Decorating. The Blood one is on March 30, 31, and April 7 and 9 from 11am to 12 noon when former RSC Head of Wigs and Make-up, Brenda Leedham, talks about the tricks of the trade and how bruises, cuts and scars are created. This is suitable for all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult.

The cost for this workshop is £3.50 while it is £10 per session for the Voice Skills on April 8, 9 and 10, although all three sessions can be booked for £27. These sessions are 10.30am to 12.30am for 11-14 years and 2-4pm for 15-18 years.

The Easter Biscuit Decorating is £2.50 per biscuit decorated and will take place in the Scott Bar on April 2, 3, 9 and 10 from 3 to 4pm. The theatre’s Rooftop Restaurant chef will be looking after these one hour drop-in sessions designed for all the family when they can decorate an Easter biscuit with icing and sprinkles, then take home their creation and enjoy.

Other workshops will be taking place at the Clore Learning Centre in Stratford and include Speaking Shakespeare, Stage Fighting, The Story Garden and a Family Workshop where children can learn more about the themes of magic and madness in two of Shakespeare’s classic plays – A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth as part of two special workshops.

Once again advanced booking is recommended and it should also be remembered that children must be accompanied by an adult.
