THE sounds of ancient Celtic harps will drift around St Peter's Church in Abbots Morton at a special concert to raise money for the church's bell tower appeal.

The concert of Scottish songs and airs for voice and harp will be by Bill Taylor, a leading expert in ancient harp music, and vocalist Anne Lewis.

Both performers are travelling from Edinburgh for the concert.

It is the latest in a series of events hoping to raise £40,000 for repairs to the 14th century bell tower of the Grade 1 listed church, near Inkberrow.

Appeal chairman, Colin Pemberton, said: "It's a real coup to have Bill and Anne performing for us. It's a rare opportunity to see and hear an expert harper and a renowned singer in this field. The sounds of old Scotland will fill St Peter's."

The concert will feature traditional Scottish songs and airs from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Bill said: "Anne and I are delighted to be playing in Abbots Morton Church to help with their appeal to fund repairs to their bell tower. It's a delightful little church with good acoustics... an excellent setting for beautiful music and song."

The concert is on Saturday, April 18.

Tickets, costing £15 (which includes a glass of wine), are available from 01386 792549 or colinlynnepemberton@supanet.com.
