NATURE loving children are in for a treat this half term, as a garden centre is offering an unusual activity to keep the whole family busy.

Youngsters are being invited to Studley Garden Centre to paint a wooden nest box, to take home to hang in the garden.

The garden centre will also be promoting the importance of local nature by running a free wildlife trail where children will have to find the 10 wildlife images that have been hidden around the store.

Each participating child will then receive a goody bag.

The nest box painting event, which coincides with National Nest Box Week, aims to encourage local children to help wild birds flourish and will run through half term which is Monday, February 16 to Friday, February 20 from 11am to 3pm.

The event costs £4 per child and includes all materials needed.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the day from the tills.

Studley Garden Centre manager, Paul Williams, said: “It can be very tricky keeping the kids entertained over half term, so we think this fun activity is an ideal way to keep the whole family happy.

"It helps raise awareness about National Nest Box Week and the importance of looking after the birds through the seasons, as well as giving children an enjoyable craft project they can take home.”
