BATCHLEY Support Group Redditch Communities will be hosting its annual Christmas event, Yule by the School, this Friday, December 5.

The event starts at 5.30pm with a procession of carol singers accompanied by Santa and his sleigh from Batchley First School, through St. David’s House and Queen’s Cottages to the Christmas tree opposite the Batchley road shops.

Children from Batchley First School will be singing carols around the tree at 5.45pm, accompanied by members of the Salvation Army band.

6pm sees the Christmas tree lights being switched on by deputy mayor Pattie Hill followed by a fireworks display.

Santa’s grotto will open at Batchley Community Centre at 6.15pm until 7.30pm where refreshments will also be available.

The grotto costs £1.50 per child (maximum age of 10-years-old) and each child will receive a gift.

Maureen Muckle, MBE, from the charity, said: "Once again we are delighted to host this event for the families and children of Redditch. Santa has kindly agreed to visit us once again this year, as the children of Redditch made him so welcome last time."
