STUDLEY Art Circle will be holdings its annual exhibition.

The exhibition, in Studley Village Hall, will feature a number of paintings and tapestries and will give people the opportunity to meet some of the group's artists.

There is also the chance to purchase many of the works of art with proceeds going toward the Severn Freewheelers, a group of volunteer motorcyclists providing a free out-of-hours courier service around Worcestershire and surrounding areas.

They carry whole blood, pathology samples, patients’ scans/xrays, human milk – in fact any medical essentials between the hospitals in the area.

Diane Pannell, from Studley Art Circle, said she is passionate about the supporting the charity since her grandson needed of an exchange blood transfusion.

"On December 29 2012 my grandson was born. Immediately after his birth he was in urgent need of an exchange blood transfusion. As there was no suitable blood available within the West Midlands, bloods had to be transported from the Filton Blood Bank in Bristol.

"The Severn Freewheeler that was on call collected and delivered the blood to The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

"This riders’ selflessness ensured that my grandson had the treatment he needed within hours of delivery, saving his life, and giving him a future."

She added: "Until we had need of this organisation I knew very little about them. It is rare that we get to know about the work that goes on behind the scenes, and I am sure few of us will ever know we have used these services.

"They are a very necessary organisation, and perform their duties admirably. They are funded by public donation and it costs £14,000 per bike per year to keep it in service.

"Public support is invaluable."

The art exhibition is on Saturday, October 11 from 10am to 4.30pm.
