FOLLOWING an extremely successful 2013, which saw more than £7,000 raised for local charities, the Astwood Bank Carnival committee is already busy planning a number of events for 2014.

The first event of the year is a quiz night which will take place at Ridgeway Middle School on Friday, April 4.

Starting at 8pm teams of four are being encouraged to enter for a fee of £10 per team.

Committee chairman Jenny Lightfoot said: "The quiz nights have always been one of our more popular events and with over 20 teams entering each of the last three quiz nights we are expecting a great turnout.

"Teams are encouraged to register before the night where ever possible. It’s a great evening, a good laugh, and an event that residents of Astwood Bank can walk to. It also raises vital money for local charities and groups.”

Details of further planned events will be available shortly on astwoodbankcarnival.co.uk.

The major event already set in stone is this year's carnival procession and fete which will take place on Saturday, July 12 with this year’s theme being the commonwealth.

Floats and marching bands are already being booked for the procession along with the beer tent and attractions being arranged for the carnival field.
