The first official full-length trailer for the third Captain America movie has dropped.
Captain America: Civil War, the latest adventure starring Chris Evans as the Cap alongside a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie, promises explosive blasts and fast-paced action, with factions in friendships and more.
Here’s what we picked up from the two-minute-and-30-second footage:
1. Captain America and Bucky Barnes are friends again
They were childhood friends, but the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier ensured Steve Rogers (played by Chris) and Bucky aka Winter Soldier fought each other, on opposing sides.
The opening scene shows Steve asking Bucky, now a fugitive: “Do you remember me?” to which Bucky replies: “Your mum’s name was Sarah – and you used to wear newspaper in your shoes.”
Will they put their differences aside and join forces again?
2. General “Thunderbolt” Ross is back
William Hurt has reprised his role as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the man who was dedicated to capturing the Hulk/Bruce Banner – then played by Edward Norton – in 2008′s The Incredible Hulk.
This time, the General admits he is not happy with Captain America.
“There are a great many people who see you as a hero, there are some who prefer the word ‘vigilante’. You have operated with unlimited power, and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate.”
3. Iron Man takes on Captain America
It’s the battle Marvel fans have been waiting for, and they won’t be disappointed as Robert Downey Jr’s metal-clad superhero fights the Cap. “Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth,” Robert’s alter-ego Tony Stark tells Chris’s Steve.
The reason why? Because while Captain America disagrees with the Sokovia Accords, the Marvel Comic Universe’s version of the Superhero Registration Act, Tony Stark is in favour of it.
4. The Avengers split
We’ve seen the Avengers fighting S.H.I.E.L.D agents and other enemies together, but in Civil War, they are going to be on different factions.
Captain America will be backed by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie). Iron Man’s team includes Black Widow (Scarlett) and War Machine (Don Cheadle).
5. First look at Black Panther – but where is Ant-Man?
In the trailer, we get the first glimpse of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther in his full glory – but even eagle-eyed viewers will struggle to spot Ant-Man, once again played by Paul Rudd, here.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: Civil War will be released in UK cinemas on April 29, 2016.
