Ryan Gosling has proved he can do funny guy as well as serious actor when he gatecrashed a video link with Russell Crowe.

The pair are filming Seventies-set thriller The Nice Guys in Los Angeles together, and Russell took some time out on set to help present an honour at Sydney’s Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.

Host Geoffrey Rush linked up with Russell from Down Under and the Gladiator star was just introducing the award when Ryan walked into shot wearing a suit and tie and sporting a goatee and a plaster cast on one arm.

When Russell explained he was doing a video link for the AACTA’s, Ryan said: “Hey you won? Congratulations!”

When Russell said no, he replied: “Oh, you lost? Sorry about that. You were robbed… you win just by being nominated, you’ll get ‘em next time!”

Ryan then did his impression of an Australian accent and told Russell: “It’s OK, I’m an honorary Australian, I lived in New Zealand for like two years. I’m sweet as, bro.”

When Russell, who was born in New Zealand, told him they were two different countries, Ryan quipped: “It’s OK, they can just cut that part out.”

Cate Blanchett was also at the awards, arriving in a pink satin gown with black trim by Alexander McQueen and apparently told reporters she wasn’t wearing any knickers under the figure-hugging dress.

Later, presenting on stage, the 45-year-old actress kicked off her high heels.
